Dauguma rūšių gyvena miškuose, krūmynuose, laukuose (atvirose vietose), gerai skraido, greitai bėgioja, laipioja. Minta vabzdžiais, augalų sėklomis ir vaisiais. Paplitę viso pasaulio sausumos buveinėse, nuo dykumų iki atogrąžų miškų. Lietuvoje aptinkama 125 rūšys žvirblinių paukščių (vieversiai, kregždės, audėjai, kielės, musinukės, zylės ir kt.) atitikmenys: lot. Passeriformes angl. passerines birds vok. Spatzvögel, m; Sperlingsvögel, m rus. воробьиные птицы
